We just received word today that Nokia, who is working on a huge country wide cellular system in India, and after extensive testing, has approved the use of the VIA Echo 2500 for certifying their cell sites there.
Here’s a brief update on improvements requested by Nokia and other customers that are currently available in the VIA Echo instruments:
Echo PC Vision has been updated to Version 2008.3 and is available on our website.
Improvements include: Faster upload times
Reduced USB port hang-ups for continuous data flow
Improved FDR data display
VIA Echo 1000SF & 2500 Changes:
Power Meter can now accept any input attenuator up to 50dB. The F3 menu for the Spectrum Analyzer lets the user adjust for the size of attenuator, gives auto-computed direct read results. It even has a default attenuator ON/OFF feature for those using a standard XX dB attenuator.
Power Ranges (No attenuator) – Plus 20dBm (100,Watts) to Neg 30dBm (1microWatt)
(30dB attenuator) – Plus 50dBm (100Watts) to 0 dBm (1milliWatt)
New Accessories: 30dB Attenuator, Part Number 6025-0265, $350.00
N Terminator Set, Part Number 6025-0270, $250.00
Now included (NO-CHARGE) with all VIA Echo 2500’s.
As frequencies go above 1500MHz it becomes more important to use an “open terminator” built to match the length of the short and matched terminators. AEA Technology has designed and manufactures this new accessory as an all-in-one terminator set. We highly recommend it’s use with the Echo 2500 and have started shipping it as standard. It is optional for the Echo 1000 & 1000SF. Those instruments still receive the independent Short and Matched terminators. The N-Terminator Set (pictured below) is available now.

The pre-amplifier will lower the Spectrum Analyzer’s noise floor to -125+ dBm

The 20/20 Step Time Domain Reflectometer (TDR) was designed to provide the clearest picture of coaxial or twisted pair cable lengths and to pin-point cable faults. Step TDR’s, unlike, Pulse TDR’s have no dead-zone on any range and they can provide an impedance (Z) reading for the cable, both graphically and digitally.
|
Additionally, the 20/20 Step TDR, like the Tektronix® 1502C, can be used on either coax or twisted pair cables and provide a clearer picture of cable faults or events including:
- Shorts
- Opens
- Wet cable
- Bridged taps
- Load coils
- Split pairs
- Cable kinks
- Crushed cable
- Cable faults
- Series resistive faults
- Shunt faults
- Splitters
- Poor connections
- Poor quality cable
- Lossy cable
- Other impedance deviations
Frequency Domain Reflectometers (FDR) test cable at specific frequencies or frequency bands. Time Domain Reflectometers (TDR) test a cable against the manufacturer’s Characteristic Impedance, which basically tests the cable for any and all frequencies. The 20/20 TDR has 16 different models depending on application. They are used in broadcast, wireless, cellular, land mobile, telephone, Voice-Data-Video, RF, CATV, aerospace, military, or special applications such as Time-Based TDRs, or Project IceCube at the South Pole. Any where there is a need to test cable for high bandwidth applications our 20/20 TDR’s can accurately locate cable faults, save troubleshooting time, and reduce service call costs.
