  ----- Nexus Hawk™ -----

Any time, Anywhere, Any Network

The Nexus Hawk is simply described as a “portable, Internet/network wireless access point”. More granularly, it is a future-looking, field-deployable, portable, wireless access point whose data streams can be natively secured through the application of state-of-the-art security encryption schemes.

The Nexus Hawk enables secure, digital communication where no such pathway exited before for mobile and remote workers – anywhere in the cellular telephone “universe”.

Using the Nexus Hawk, untethered (mobile and nomadic users) and untetherable (where cables cannot be installed) users may leverage the power of existing cellular data networks, satellite data providers and existing WiFi hotspots – while adding up to 8 additional layers of security to stay network/Internet connected and communicating even in remote or inhospitable locations.

Nexus Hawk - Information Securely and Reliably

The Nexus Hawk is a highly secure, industrial grade, mobile, multi-network gateway.

Some people refer to it as a mobile router or cellular router.

It has up to four (4) WAN pathways, including two cellular data cards, a 10/100 Ethernet port
and Wi-Fi (as a client to a trusted access point via 802.11 a/b/g).

There are up to two LAN pathways available, including 10/100 Ethernet
and 54mbps Wi-Fi (as an access point).

Models

The Nexus Hawk is available in two models. The Model 1000 and 2000 differentiate in that they provide a one or two PCMCIA slots respectively. All models are designed to be compatible with all U.S carrier networks such as Sprint, Verizon and Cingular.

Options

Two options are offered within each model. WiFi, 802.11 a/b/g wireless and GPS, Garmin integrated 12 satellite GPS receiver. Both models of the Nexus Hawk can integrate each option individually or both options within the product.

The Nexus iSR difference… Firmware features and enhancements are available free-of-charge for the lifecycle of the product. They are simply downloaded from this site. Few other products actually get better over time.

Nexus DATadapter™

Introducing the Nexus DATadapter, the secure software that translates GPS data from your Nexus Hawk into a format your AVL system will recognize - no matter which one you currently use.

DATadapter frees you from being locked into legacy or proprietary devices and software. So you avoid costly and time-consuming system upgrades.

Secure and easy-to-use, DATadapter can adapt GPS data for tasks of any size, from tracking a local ambulance fleet to managing shipping routes. And the device is fully customizable, precisely engineered to fit your specific needs.

DATadapter reads and archives GPS data from any number of Hawks, and converts it into your specialized or proprietary format, or another data format (such as TAIP).

The program then sends the transformed data back to all your AVL systems. So you can track your fleet at several locations - even if different software is installed at each one.

To find out more about the Nexus DATadapter, contact Nexus iSR today.

I've changed my Eth1 IP Address and now I can't to the management console?

After changing the Eth1 IP address you must perform the following operations in order to view the management console and to connect to the internet:

Windows2000/XP:
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
Linux:
ifconfig /release
ifconfig /renew

What do I do if I can't remember the IP address to the management console?

If you cannot remember the IP address to the management console you must reset the Nexus Hawk to factory defaults.

What do I do if I've lost my management console password?

If you've lost your management console password you must reset the Nexus Hawk to factory defaults.

How do I restore factory defaults?

To restore factory defaults on the Nexus Hawk you have two options.
Press-and-hold the Reset button on the Nexus Hawk for 5 flashes.
In the management console navigate to the Administration|Reset|Restore Defaults page and press the Restore button.

I plug the crossover cable from my Nexus Hawk into my LAN port on the PC and I am receving "Limited or no connectivity" from Windows?

Verify that the crossover cable is connected to the Eth1 port on the Nexus Hawk.
Verify that the provided crossover not straight cable is being used.

I pushed the 'reset' button and slipped off before holding it down for 5 flashes. I immediately held down the 'reset' button for 5 flashes and the Nexus Hawk won't restore defaults?

The 'reset' button is software controlled and does not respond to commands while POSTing. After your tool slipped off of the 'reset' button the Nexus Hawk began rebooting. During this time the Nexus Hawk will not respond. To restore the defaults once the Nexus Hawk has finished POSTing hold the 'reset' button down for 5 flashes to begin restoring the factory defaults.

PC has DHCP enabled; Nexus Hawk connected to PC has 'Eth1' port configured statically. Internet is connected to PC through Nexus Hawk's WAN port. DHCP lease expired on the Nexus Hawk causing the PC to lose network connection.

On PC's network settings - TCP/IP settings select the 'Use the following IP address' option. In the IP address enter the first three numbers that are assigned to the Nexus Hawk. In the last box enter any number between 1-254 but not the number that the Nexus Hawk is configured to. Once the DHCP lease is renewed go back to the Nexus Hawk GUI and navigate to the Setup|10/100 Ethernet page. Enable the DHCP server, enter a DHCP range and save configuration. On the PC's network TCP/IP settings reset option to 'Obtain an IP address automatically'.

After restoring defaults from the Nexus Hawk GUI I received a 'The page cannot be displayed' error?

This will happen if you changed your LAN IP address from the default. The restore defaults function will restore the LAN IP back to 192.168.1.1. To view the Nexus Hawk's GUI navigate to the 192.168.1.1 address.

Why are the and buttons disabled on the Cellular WAN configuration page when my cellular card is plugged in?
When both the and buttons are disabled the Nexus Hawk doesn't recognize that a cellular card has been inserted into the card slot.

Please follow these steps:

Power-off the Nexus Hawk, unplug the cellular data card, firmly re-insert the cellular data card, power-up the Nexus Hawk.
If the link light on the cellular card fails to blink, it is possible that the cellular card is not functional. Repeat the operation in the other slot (if the Nexus Hawk has multiple slots).

I just unboxed my Nexus Hawk and notice that I am not receiving any GPS data from it. Why?

Upon the 1st power up of a GPS it will take up to 5 minutes for the GPS to orient itself and find a signal. It takes that long for the GPS to know where it is on the world landscape. This is a process that occurs only on initial power-up "from the box" and never again.

Why am I not receiving any GPS data from my Nexus Hawk on a remotely controlled computer?

To view GPS data remotely (through the WAN connection) you must turn on the access to GPS port through an option found on the Administration | Management | WAN configuration page.
